Ever since the launch of my book, Project Management Interview Questions Made Easy, I received a lot of requests for supplemental materials including project manager resumes, sample templates, a structured interview guide and checklists to help prepare for a project manager interview.
I’ve put together a Project Manager Interview Questions Tool Kit that will help candidate project managers and hiring managers during the interview process.
What is in the Tool Kit?
The tool kit includes:
- Experience Project Management and Functional Project Manager Resume Templates
- Resume samples for the experienced PM and for the novice PM seeking their first PM job
- Mind Maps templates to help prepare your for your next interview
- A Career Contact tool to help track potential job leads and key contacts during your job search
- A Project Management Interview Guide for Interviewers and Project Manager candidates
Resume Templates and Sample Resumes
The key to getting a project management interview is of course the resume. I see a lot of resumes and prospective project managers make the mistake of putting too much information into their resumes. In this toolkit, I provide two resume formats – one for the experienced project manager and one for a candidate with a functional resume seeking a project management role. Both templates include completed resume samples for you to adapt to your own resume.
What project management product wouldn’t be complete without a checklist? In this checklist I provide over 15 different quality checks to ensure your resume is easily readable and contains the key phrases to get a hiring manager to call you.
Project Management Interview Guide
For the hiring manager, I’ve developed a project management interview guide that contains all the key leadership and technical project management questions to identify and hire the4 right resource for the job. Project management candidates can also refer to the interview guide and practice responses to the key project management questions. It is a useful tool for mock interviews and the actual interview process.
Mind Mapping Templates
In the book, I wrote about a useful tool that I’ve used on all my interviews – The One Page Project Management Interview Question Mind Map. I found this tool to be invaluable in quickly preparing for an interview. If you spent all your time anticipating interview questions and preparing your responses, you likely have a lot of notes and key speaking points. The mind map helps organize these thoughts into manageable chunks. Using a one page format, you can review it right before your interview and slip it into your portfolio.
I created the template in multiple mind mapping formats including Mindjet, MindGenius, Xmind and FreeMind. These are four of the most popular mind mapping tools on the market and all provide trial or free versions of the software.
Career Contact Matrix
Another key tool is the Career Contract Matrix. If you are prospecting for new project management jobs, the career contact matrix will help you identify leads and track progress across all your opportunities. Even after you secure your next project management position, the matrix will help you in your current role and plan for future roles.

I built the tool kit as a supplemental resource and I’m sure you’ll find the templates, checklists and tools useful in your next project management interview.
